Protection of Post-Tensioned Structures

Post-Tensioning (PT) tendons are sensitive to corrosion due to their smaller diameter and higher risk of failure under tension. It is imperative that proper measures are taken to protect them throughout their lifecycle:

During Transit and Storage:

PT tendons should be packed in VpCI®packaging that has no deleterious effect on steel or concrete or bond strength of steel to concrete.

In Duct prior to Grouting:

In the event of delays in grouting beyond 7 days, MCI®-309 should be fogged into the duct and sealed to protect the tendons from corrosion.

In Service:

For protection of tendons during operation, MCI®-2006NS should be added into the grout mix design.
